Mexican Gold Libertad Coins
The front of the Mexican Gold Libertad coins features Mexico’s National Emblem, right in the centre, surrounded by the words Estados Unidos Mexicanos. Meaning United States Mexicans, or United States of Mexico. The different emblems that have been associated with Mexico’s history follow the coin’s contour along the outer edge.
The Mexican Libertad coins are gold bullion coins, and have been sold in 1/20, 1/10, ¼, ½, and 1 oz. versions. They are made up of 0.999 fine gold. On one side, is a winged Victoria stood on top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column, with the volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl in the landscape. And the reverse side shows the coat of arms of Mexico. In the new version, one can see the Independence Angel, in a different angle, while the reverse side showing the coat of arms of Mexico, surrounded by historical Mexican coats of arms.
The original design of the Mexican Gold Libertad coin is based on the Centenario Gold Mexican coin. Although not as popular as some International Gold coins like the British Gold Sovereign or South African Krugerrand, they are highly collectable.
