Chinese Panda Gold Coins
The Chinese Gold Panda coin features China’s symbolic animal, and has for a long time been much of a favorite among coin collectors and jewellery designers around the world. These Chinese Panda Gold Coins were at one point minted in as many as seven different sizes, coming second only to the Australian nugget’s eight sizes. However, the 5- and 12- oz. sizes were discontinued around 10+ years back.
The main obverse design of the Chinese panda coins remain unchanged, and features Beijing’s famous Temple of Heaven (Tien Tien) along with the date of issue. There are Chinese characters above the temple’s roof. The design on the reverse changes ever year, but the endangered Giant Panda is always featured. The reverse of the panda gold coins also marks the size, gold fineness, and monetary amount of the coin.
From the years 1982 to 2000, the face values of the 1/20- through 1- oz. Chinese panda coins were 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 Yuan respectively. Since then, the face values have been raised. The 2009 Chinese panda coins feature a pair of Panda cubs eating lunch, against a background of bamboo trees and are very collectable by collectors and investors alike.
