South African Krugerrand Coins

The South African Krugerrand coins were first minted in 1967, to help market South African gold. These gold coins have legal tender status in South Africa, but were actually not meant to be used as currency.

The South African Krugerrand coin was the first gold bullion coin that could be used as legal tender, at the market value of its intrinsic gold content.
